IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Dear GICS Community,
Last week the Goethe International Charter School Board of Trustees reviewed the key components required for GICS to open this fall. At a previous meeting they had identified these components as :
-
A lease or letter of intent from a viable site
-
At least 72 students committed to enroll
-
2 German teachers secured
-
Donations/loans to provide sufficient cash flow until arrival of grant monies
-
A qualified administrator
Theboard is awed by the efforts of the community to achieve all of these in such a short period of time. Because everyone has worked so hard to further the GICS vision, the board wants to ensure a successful opening and a vigorous, stable and high quality institution. After much board discussion and extensive input from community members present at the meeting, the consensus was it would be best to wait for GICS to open in the 2009-2010 school year. There are too many uncertainties and too much risk involved in attempting to open this fall. We all want Goethe International Charter School to open its doors well-prepared and ready to deliver the highest quality education to its students.
The board and community members applaud everyone's work and dedication. Many have neglected their loved ones, reached into their own pockets and worked into the wee hours. This dedication demonstrates the need for a school like GICS and shows the capacity of the GICS community to achieve its vision.
The work ahead will be easier because of what we have already achieved-- an approved charter petition, Walton grants and 501c 3 status. These accomplishments facilitate our ability to fund raise, hire teachers and sign a lease. As disappointing as our postponement is, we now have the gift of time-- time to create a beautiful environment for a school and time for our principal and faculty to develop their curriculum and instructional strategies.
The board of trustees thanks everyone again for their extraordinary efforts. We anticipate a year of wonderful community events and further work to make our shared vision a reality.
Sincerely,
The Goethe International Charter School Board of Trustees
Meeting Info
First Goethe Charter School Fundraiser Dec. 9th in Brentwood a huge success
Hosted by Angelika and Hanns Hederer at their beautiful Brentwood home. The guests enjoyed delicious appetizer, drinks and desserts and were excited to listen to the vision and progress of the school from the founding parents. The atmosphere was very warm mixed with excitement and the willingness to support the creation of the school. View photos from the event
Our special appreciation goes to Angelika and Hanns Hederer and all volunteers who made this fundraiser possible.
Help us achieve our goal – donate in 2007
We almost have achieved our goal of raising $ 30,000 until 12/31/2007. All parents who would like to donate and support the school before the end of the year, can make a tax-deductible DONATION NOW (any amount is welcome).
